Learn a little something about Marketing

Have you ever been surprised when the door bell rang to find the person on the other side of the door is holding a beautiful basket and it’s for you? Isn’t it a wonderful feeling. That’s one reason I like to send gift baskets. Surprising people is fun, and you know they are going to love what you have sent. You know what it’s like to be sitting at your desk when a delivery comes in for someone and it looks so beautiful and interesting you can’t wait to see who is the lucky recipient. All the while wondering and sort of hoping it’s for you. The other part of this equation is that it is so simple. I can make people happy, and all I have to do is sort through the gift baskets available online and choose one I think is just right and send it. No more mall shopping headaches pacing from store to store looking for something you can give. It eats away at your free time and half the time you end up buying something just mediocre.

I have some family out of town, so I thought I would look to see what I could order and send to them. I was looking for something for a family of four with children and a set of grandparents too, but I narrowed it down in minutes. I’m sending the upscale wine and cheese gourmet basket to the grandparents. I’ll also be sending the holiday sweets basket with the Santa and red and white decorated Christmas boxes for my small family with little children. My grandparents will be delighted and the family’s children will be thrilled when they see what has been delivered for them. All of the baskets I saw are so beautifully presented and the range in selection is huge. You can do Hanukkah Baskets, Christmas Morning Baskets, and New Year’s Baskets. You name it and it’s available, and in every price range too. I hope if anyone is wondering what to give me they don’t pace the stores, but surprise me with a gift basket.

Discount sunglasses can be a great affordable way to look good, but more importantly protect your eyes from the suns harmful Ultraviolet rays. Read the rest of this entry »

I live in a zero-lot line duplex with a small backyard. Yes, it may be the size of a postage stamp, but it’s mine! This year, the gardening crazy finally hit me, and I decided to spiff the space up. It’s protected by a tall cedar fence, similar to the fence featured on the TV show “Home Improvement.” It creates a feeling of privacy, but the yard itself had no pizzazz. I gleaned ideas from looking through magazines and going online to surf the Internet. I probably spent 10 hours studying other’s people’s small back yard spaces, but I enjoyed every moment. One of the things I found that was a must use was a garden trellis. Read the rest of this entry »

Once I discovered this unique sterling silver bulldog charm, I stopped looking. It had been a project for a while; every time I was in a mall or scoping out my local antique store, I spent time peering in the jewelry cases. But after 5 years of looking, I’d just about given up. Oh sure, I could find plenty of the standard, cartoonish bulldog designs, but I wanted something that really stood out. This little fellow has a face that would melt any bulldog owner’s heart! I have a dozen recipes for quick and easy versions of various cream pies and they each have their merits. But, when it comes to really good Banana Cream Pie, there is no substitute for homemade pie from scratch. It’s nice to have a special pie for special occasions. It shows you put some effort into sharing the occasion with your special person. Banana Cream Pie is especially pretty and festive. Just the creamy color, the wonderfully sweet aroma, and, of course, the flavor, are enough to say “You’re special.” But, add in the time and effort you took, and your special person will know how much you care about them and want to celebrate with them, too. Seven years ago we bought a brand new house with dirt for a yard. The first couple of years we were lucky to get grass growing and we never thought about what the yard could look like as it was not a priority. Then we decided we would purchase a garden structure or feature every spring in order to enhance the look and feel of either the front or back yards. We’ve added a water feature otherwise known as a fish pond that my four year old son adores and a shed that was more a necessity than a fun so last year I put my foot down for something that was more along the line of pretty. Mother’s Day is coming up and soon my kids and husband will be dropping hints about the occasion and starting to feel me out for my choice of present. You know, for so many years I used to come up with lame answers like, “I don’t need anything” or “Breakfast in bed” or even the perennially pathetic “I’d like a day off from the dishes.” And because I made it easy, that’s what I usually got – Nadda. Well as I’ve matured, a few things have finally come clear for me and this year I’m asking for a Japanese Flowering Cherry Bonsai tree. It’s part of a long term training program. If you’ve only tried hot, mulled cider in your crock pot for the holidays, you may want to “punch” it up a bit with a Crock Pot Christmas Punch.  Your guests will be singing your praises when they encounter the “pucker up” tangy flavor of the cranberry juice mixed with the incredible sweetness of the pineapple juice.  This combination certainly delivers a wonderful surprise.  I recommend keeping this punch nice and hot, and serving it right out of your crock pot.  Dip good, sturdy mugs, not little dainty cups, right into the crock pot and put in a fresh cinnamon stick for stirring.  Hearty and festive! I am a huge fan of the George Foreman Grill as I use mine all of the time. Like when the weather just doesn’t want to cooperate and I’m in the mood for some grilled chicken, a burger, or maybe a tuna steak. What do I do? I take the grill out of my cabinet, plug it in and within minutes my food is grilling quickly and conveniently on my counter top. The fats drain away into the catch pan, so my meats cook healthier. The house smells wonderful, and the grill is a breeze to clean up. To me the flavor is so much better than trying to bake the food in the oven. We have the big grill, but if you’re someone seeking a smaller grill, then this George Foreman Next Generation Grill is the one for you. Read the rest of this entry »

If I could, I would have plants hanging everywhere inside and outside my home all year round.  I don’t think you can have too many hanging baskets full of beautiful flowers.  My favorite hanging planter is the lattice herb basket.  It’s made of steel with a rustic iron powder coat finish that protects it from rusting and chipping.  The classic latticework is simple and beautiful and is perfect for holding potted plants, whether they are flowers or herbs. The basket is also 14 inches in diameter so it can hold a pretty good sized pot. Read the rest of this entry »

The holidays bring in far more than Christmas gifts and frantic shopping.  They bring in the cold and dreary days of late fall that eventually turn into winter.  You may think this is a downer but it’s not at all.  In fact, getting a good look at your yard during this time of the year means you can really see where it needs a little pizzazz to make it better.  After all, spring will be here quicker than you think. You add that little something by adding to your existing garden décor and my family’s choice has been a beautiful eight inch diameter copper gazing ball to our flower garden in the backyard. No matter what you are into, portable light systems are a necessity. Whether the power goes out or you cannot get a campfire started in the woods; having no light makes even the simplest tasks harder and some even borderline dangerous. Flashlights are often the first choice as they are smaller and extremely portable yet they run on batteries which more times than not have let you down in the past. This is where a quality lantern could come into play. Easy to store, easy to start; a Double Mantle Twin Globe Lantern with Igniter and Soft Case is a great asset to backup or be a primary light source. Read the rest of this entry »
